Passion Projects

I want to talk about passion projects. These are the projects we meticulously work on for hours on end. We have spent so much time on the project that we want to over-price it. Does that work? Will people buy it not knowing how much we’ve put into it?

One year ago

I thought it was an amazing idea to use this tiny miter saw to build 1 inch frames for art going into my coin-op art gallery.

I was engrossed in the whole process.

It was very satisfying.

They were all ready to go

but then I decided I had put to much work into them to sell for $1.

Today I decided

to let them go.

I tucked them back into their gallery capsules.

Gallery installation

They are now available, as originally intended, to be bought affordably and by chance, for $1.

It was a good time to let them go because this year I’ve started another passion project.

Acrylic tape resist on hardwood finish samples.

I meticulously chose miniature abstracts with a view finder

The paintings were then mounted and framed.

The original purpose

of the art was to sell them for $1 in my gum-ball machine art gallery.

I kept them out of the gallery to sell at a higher price.

And then this year, an even higher price. None sold.

I spent a few moments with them.

Enjoying having them all to myself.

I guess the point, for me, of a passion project

is the fun of experimenting, exploring

and just making stuff.
